Access to Test Results and Hospital Letters
When a test is requested you will be asked to follow up the result.
The results are assessed by the doctors in the practice and a brief comment is written on your medical record. This will be available online (so if you are registered via our reception for this you can access it here: Patient Access online system
) or our reception staff can read out the comment to you. Often this will simply be an observation like “normal”, “no action” or “stable”.
If an action is needed which is not urgent we may comment “discuss telephone” or “discuss at next routine appointment”. If a result requires more urgent attention we will endeavour to contact you but please accept it is your responsibility to check results have been received back by the practice.
- We encourage all patients over the age of 18 to use our online service to access your test results and your hospital letters. This will help to ensure that you are kept informed and able to actively manage your own health.
- If you prefer to telephone, please call between 2pm and 4pm to enquire about your test results, as our reception staff will have more time to deal with your request between these times.
- Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.
- When you have your test you will be told approximately how long it will be before the results are returned to the practice. Although we will endeavour to contact you if an urgent problem is detected, it is your responsibility to check your results and to make an appointment to discuss them with your doctor if you are advised to do so.
